I started my career as a radio technician for a small company in Louth in Lincolnshire, serving my apprenticeship between the ages of 16 and 21.
In 1983 the company I worked for went bankrupt and it was at this point I decided to re-train for a career in piano tuning. I attended the internationally renowned course at Newark Technical College between 1984-1987, qualifying with the college's own Diploma and City and Guilds Parts One and Two in Stringed Keyboard Instrument Manufacture.
After leaving college I was self-employed for a time before working for Wilson Peck in Sheffield (1988) and Forsyths in Manchester (1989-1990). I moved back to the Lincolnshire area in 1990 to work for H Poole Ltd in Grimsby.
In 1992 I bought the tuning round from Pooles music and started on my own. My client base now is over 1500 strong and my time is taken up tuning and maintaining their pianos.
When I am not tuning or repairing pianos I am also an organist. Having spent my whole life as a chorister, and the last thirty five years as organist and choir master at several local churches, I gave up my post in October 2017. I now freelance for those hard working organists who need a Sunday off!
